Celebrating 50years of working hard for Omega

Stuttgart, Germany –This AchievementWeek was significant as it concluded the 50th Anniversary celebration of Theta Rho’s Charter and marked the 101st birthday of Omega Psi Phi.  The weekend began with a family fellowship and ended with corporate church worship.

Theta Rho is unique because the chapter is not just locally based in Germany, but is spread throughout Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and is the mother chapter of the Fraternity’s first chapter in the United Kingdom, Chi Mu Mu. Brothers came from all over Europe for this year’s festive celebration. The weekend began with a hosted family dinner that lasted early into the next day. It gave the chapter a chance to recognize those who sacrifice the most to allow the men of Theta Rho to work diligently for the community.

The following day, the chapter installed its newly elected officers and conducted its monthly business meeting. Immediately following the meeting brothers, their families, fellow Greeks, and friends from the community joined the chapter in celebrating Founders’ Day by attending the Achievement WeekLuncheon. During the luncheon the chapter honored brothers who worked tirelessly to serve Omega throughout the previous year. Also honored were upstanding citizens, the chapter’s scholarship essay winner, and most significantly, tribute was paid to Brother Benjamin “Pops”Wilson who went on to Omega Chapter in August on this year.

Brother Colonel Jimmy L. Hall served as the guest speaker. That evening, the chapter supported the Delta Sigma Theta’s Germany Alumnae Chapter’s annual scholarship Greek Show.  The Greek Show is an annual event and draws participation from the Divine Nine. Under the theme, “Unity in the Greek Community”, Theta Rho willingly supported the fundraiser by not only giving the Deltas their full blessing to conduct the Greek Show as part of the Achievement Week festivities, but by also attending and competing. In true Omega fashion, Omega Psi Phi stole the show and won first place.

Already an event-filled and tiring day, the brothers of the Theta Rho exhibited great perseverance and hosted the Greek Show after party.  Proceeds from this event benefitted the chapter’s community uplift fund. For most, the activities of November 17, 2012 would have been enough, but the brothers continued to exemplify the true spirit of Omega and attended the Vogelweh Gospel Service.  The chapter was recognized by the congregation and the Basileus presented a donation on behalf of the chapter. While tiring, the weekend has set the pace for the 2012-13 Omega year during which Theta Rho will continue to ensure thatOmega Psi Phi is well-represented in the community.
